The "As We May Think" Net is a collaborative
Weblog of the media workshop and joint fieldtrip through electronic archives
held 3rd, 4th & 5th March 2005 at the Akademie Schloss Solitude,
Stuttgart, Germany. Following persons joined this workshop and have fed
this weblog with content: Judith Fischer Vienna; Jouke Kleerebezem, France
/ Netherlands; Franziska Lesak, Germany; Ivan Mijatovic, Switzerland,
Chandrasekhar Ramakrishnan, Germany; Kristjan Varnik, United States;
Anita Carey-Yard, Germany; Sabine von Fischer, Switzerland; Judith Gieseler,
Germany; Lee Kwang Goh, Malaysia; Mun Leng Lau, Malaysia; Helen Stratford,
Enland; and Stefan Tiron, Romania.
The idea of this workshop was to bring together a group of people / experts
from different backgrounds to jointly explore concepts and ideas, by arguing,
explaining ideas, typing in, and cutting & pasting new information
into an existing database. The event began with a short introduction by
the participants about their backgrounds and current field of work and
interest. This was followed by an introduction to the database and it's
applied principles by the host. The participants were divided into smaller
workgroups that worked together during one work session. The work sessions
were closed with brief presentations by an assigned person from each workgroup.
On the last day, the last two work sessions were reserved for a longer roundtable
discussion and debate on specific topics, as well as a general review of the experience
of the two-day workshop. We also held a final presentation about exemplary objects &
topics of the two days of collaboration, and typed a summary directly into the database.
Every participant came with his or her own education, practical experience and perspectives.
"I have envisioned the awmt database / encyclopedia as a catalyst for an
enterprising, collaborative research and creative experimentation to find
common grounds and interests. The awmt database provides a context for
the discussion of contemporary practices , ideas and frameworks. It enables
debate and the exchange of views. Initiating a workshop will hopefully
resulting in a new space; new properties, new nodes."
